We believe in sharing knowledge and ability. Free and open source GIS and field tools aim to do just that. Although our background lies in proprietary software such as MapInfo and eCognition, we have realised that the pace of QGIS and other FOSS projects speaks to a vibrant future for the mapping communities.
Planning a spatial data workflow requires working from the whole to the parts. Professional project direction saves time and guarantees a better quality output. A typical workflow preceded by academic research and institutional engagements might be questionnaire development, field tool design and assembly, fieldworker training, quality control, data cleaning and analysis, metadata production and data archiving.
Before setting out to manufacture data, why not check in to see what is already there. Sleuthing data sets that are useful, current and verifiable is a great way to leapfrog tasks and get your project up and running.
Examples include Census datasets, satellite imagery and existing paper and digital mapping products.
Over the last 25 years we have produced a wide range of maps and mapping products. Featured in the background of this page and on our shop site are the Clip Clop physical wall maps with a standardised sense of relief.
